A country garden in Edale - Hope Valley

The brief was to create a space in a large field for a place to play the occasional game of croquet and to relax and absorb the beautiful views over Edale moor through the woodland. We wanted to entwine the woodland and the river into the space. A jasmine archway was placed at the top of the banking that led down to the river, it is like entering a secret garden.

There are three seating areas facing the lawn with half standard rose trees either side and a main patio area with walkways each side to admire the full perennial planting palate. The colour scheme was to include shades of pink, purple, lilacs and blues, and the planting includes the bee-loving Agastache, Phlox, a range of all season Asters, Thalactrium and a variety of Amsonias. There are many plants in these borders and we all can’t wait to see them established. We used old English country garden clay pavers to edge the lawn which brings out the colour of the old Victorian bricks used on the outer walls of the house.

“The garden looked amazing for the party and everyone was totally in awe of what you’ve all done – we’ve never had so many nice comments.” Edward
